Culture Human Nature And Ernest Hemingway
In the 1900s there was a man who went by the name of Ernest Hemingway. He was highly affected by culture and human nature. Ernest Hemingway lived his life with hatred towards his mother, and disliked the fact that his father wasn’t the “man of the house.” Ernest Hemingway’s younger life affected how he lived his life when he grew up to become and independent man. Culture affects how someone lives their life, but human nature affects that even more. Human Nature makes them do the choices that they want, because of natural instincts, whether they are good or bad. Instead, in culture you make a choice, because of what you have been taught and probably what has been done in your house before you. Ernest Hemingway’s a big man now because of his great works of literature. He was a great author, and a great man. Ernest Hemingway’s passion was to write, and he became a great writer. He wrote his stories and his books putting pieces of his life into them. You can tell how most of his books are about men being powerful, and how women aren’t as important, because that’s how his life was. He hated it when his mother would make him wear dresses, and his father wouldn’t say anything about it. One of his short stories is called “the Undefeated.” This short story is about a man who has grown old, and he doesn’t want to admit it. He wants to still be a bullfighter even if the other people tell him that he is already old.
Culture is a bunch of different traditions that can form your life. Culture can also be your philosophy to life, or just a part of your life. Culture is when a big group of people do the same thing every year, and it has been passed down from generation to generation. For example Christmas, it is a tradition in where you celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Not every one celebrates it, so it’s a tradition in certain cultures. Some groups might celebrate it different than others, but it still has the same meaning.
A tradition is a custom that is handed down from generation to generation by word of mouth, or by practicing it. Customs and traditions all have the same meaning. A religion can also be put in this category, because there’s a group of people believing in the same thing, and doing the same traditions for this religion.
Human nature in people is important because sometimes it lets you decide between the good and the bad. Human Nature describes how a person thinks and acts. It lets you make the decisions that will shape your lifestyle, in the long run. People are affected by human nature, because they witness many things, and their mind decides what to think about it. Their culture and human nature are both intertwined because human nature affects culture and culture affects your human nature.
Ernest Hemingway had a difficult life growing up, because his family relied a lot on their culture, and his mother would make him wear a dress when he was a little boy, even though kids at his age were wearing shorts, pants, and shoes. His mother would make him wear a dress and boots. What made Ernest Hemingway even madder was that his father wouldn’t do or say anything about it. When Ernest Hemingway would come home from school or from fishing with his father, his mother would make him change into a dress, but back then he was too young to know something was wrong about it. His mother took the culture from the Britain’s, because she thought that it was more sophisticated, and that it would teach discipline. After Ernest Hemingway grew up, he stayed with the hatred he had towards his mother for making him wear a dress. So after he became a writer, he would write about strong men, and women never really had an important role in his books and stories.
Ernest Hemingway got married three times because he says that he really fell in love with them, and he wished he would’ve been able to stay with all three of them, but his other wives didn’t want to. It was not correct in their culture for three women to have the same husband for several different women. During his lifetime, Ernest Hemingway acted out his powerlessness by hunting, drinking, spending lots of money, and having many girlfriends. Ernest Hemingway was a little fond of death and he wasn’t as sane as any other person would be.
Ernest Hemingway was confused about their religion and the meaning of sin, so he felt that people should be punished when they felt pleasure in their lives. Hemingway would write stories when he was in high school about the unexpected. He would write how people should usually expect the unexpected, just like death.
A short story called “The Undefeated” by Ernest Hemingway is about a man who is already getting too old to still be a bullfighter. This man got injured on one of his corridas, and when he goes back to get another bullfighting job, the man tells him that he shouldn’t because he is still weak. The man says that he wants the job, and he gets it.
I believe that Ernest Hemingway can relate to the main character, because he used to like going to the bullfighting corridas, and he couldn’t stop the aging process, so he wrote about how the man can’t do things that he could before. The Undefeated is a great piece of literature because the man doesn’t want to accept his age, even though people keep telling him that he should just stop being a bullfighter and find himself a job he still kept on insisting. This tells me that human kind is stubborn to what they fear or don’t want to happen.
In conclusion, human nature and culture are both intertwined because culture affects your human nature to a certain degree, and human nature highly affects you and your culture. Ernest Hemingway lived a troublesome life from his childhood to his death. From his mother making him wear dresses, his father not doing or saying anything about it, to his growing up to have a certain hatred towards his mother, falling in love with three people, and getting married three times. Ernest Hemingway also used to drink, hunt, and waste his money, to replace his powerlessness. The short story written by him called “The Undefeated” is about a man who was getting too old to still be a bullfighter, but he still remained in the denial part of his life, so he wanted so much to get another bullfighting job, until the man gave up and gave it to him. Ernest Hemingway was a great man, even though he had noticeable imperfections.
