Names like Dupont, Dow Corning, Degussa have been integral part of my growing years. Being raised in a family with this background my most natural choice of career was in the field of Polymer Sciences.
At junior college my good grades permitted me to choose a curriculum focused on physics, chemistry, mathematics and electronics.
Right from my adolescent days, I have always been fascinated by the intriguing world of Organic Chemistry and its endless applications and possibilities. My father is the technical director of a small scale industry that manufactures specialty chemicals which find application in pharmaceutical and biological fields. R & D has always been the fundamental forte of all his commercial endeavors. Embracing a novel & different route of manufacturing some product, minimizing losses, introducing a more effective & environment friendly catalyst, reducing by-products & enhancing yields, getting more conversions – these formed the basis of my father’s day to day work. These are the ways of thinking that I have been a part of right from my childhood and these thus formed the basis of my lifelong passion for organic chemistry. Till today, it has never ceased to amaze me as to how a single change in the process, be it in a process parameter or in a substance used, can change the course of the reaction, and drastically improve results.
The desire to make Organic Chemistry a part of my life led me to seek admission in UICT (University Institute of Chemical Technology, formerly known as UDCT), for the B. Tech. degree. I chose Technology of Intermediates & Dyes as my area of specialization as I knew that the entire course work and the lab work under this program was structured around Organic Chemistry, with a very heavy emphasis on synthesis. UICT is rated as one of the best institutes in Asia for chemical engineering and chemical technology. Admission into UICT was in itself a big challenge, requiring me to be within the top 100 of 50,000 12th grade students, a feat which I achieved with a spirit of determination and hard work, which continues to be an integral part of me today.
These enigmatic phenomenon intrigued me so much that I decided Polymer Science as companion for the life. That day, I realised polymers are something more than we can think. The same fascination today has transformed into a strong desire to delve deeper into the science behind advanced materials and has inspired me to opt for graduate studies in Polymer Science.
At my high school, I developed interest in physical sciences and during the same period through various science magazines and books, I came to know about remarkable development in the field of materials.
Polymers, the most interesting field of research today, is the embracing of chemical, biological and physical sciences and technologies. And without doubt, it is constantly evolving, expanding and rapidly spreading its domain.
I always had a strong desire to engage in research at some level during my undergraduate career. This urged me to approach Industries in Research and Technology Department gave me an indispensible and invaluable experience. My interactions with the experienced team of researchers there have honed my teamwork skills and instilled in me a sense of professionalism, an important requisite for pursuing research.
The future of all branches, be it electronics, medicines, mechanics lies in the polymers
Working for PhD will help me channelize my efforts in the right direction and evaluate problems in an independent manner. I am sure that the stimulating academic environment and interaction with the distinguished faculty at XXX University will prove immensely fruitful and facilitate my development as an individual researcher in my chosen field. I feel that XXX University has a lot to offer me, and at the same time, I am confident that I would be able to make a positive contribution to on-going research work there.
On a personal front, I have always been fascinated by materials. My interests have always
been focused on engineering and compounding of materials.
Today extensive work is also done on newer materials, made as a blend, alloy, copolymer, composite to have the most optimum material properties. In the very dynamic field of Composites, people are moving to the nano-scale.
is fuelled by its reputation as a world class institution for polymer education, the academic acumen of its esteemed faculty and the intellectual brilliance of its students engaged in cutting-edge research.
In order to set and reach newer and higher goals in education and research, it is imperative that I obtain a XXX degree.
Thus I would love to explore different schools of thought and get a consummate insightfulness. Having gone through the ongoing research activities at your University I am certain that it would impart the right ambiance to realize my ambitions.
MIT is synonymous with technological innovation and has always been at the forefront of chemical engineering research worldwide. The Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT has a very strong, interdisciplinary research program with focus on all my main research interests, along with a distinguished faculty and an unparalleled intellectual atmosphere. Graduate study at MIT, in my opinion, exposes a student to the entire spectrum of contemporary challenges in chemical engineering.
I am aware that pursuing research demands dedication, commitment and teamwork. I believe that I possess the motivation, intellectual ability and academic preparation to embark on this demanding career path, and hope that my credentials qualify me as a suitable candidate for graduate study at MIT. I am convinced that with my abilities and application, I will be able to make a positive contribution to the ongoing research at MIT.
