People tried to make decision in life which they believe are going to benefit themselves without thinking about the consequences that this decision can bring to the ones around them. Vice is a tendency that is measured morally wrong and sin is the violation of any of God’s laws or moral laws. People are more likely to do what is immoral in society because it’s easier to do what can be done faster and easier than to do something that can take time and effort. The seven sins that influence people to do bad things that deemed immoral are Pride or Vanity, Avarice or Greed, Lust, Wrath or Anger, Gluttony, Envy or Jealousy and Sloth or Laziness. Not many people in the world are aware of what vices are because they believe that what they think is good is what other people understand to be good as well, but in reality this is far from the truth. These seven sins are the most common ways that people do morally wrong.
The first sin is pride or vanity. Pride or vanity is the belief in which one believes that they are better than another. But in reality no one is better than the other. People now a day believe that they are better than others because of their abilities, physical traits, recognition and materials thing they own. People believe that because they are for example attractive or handsome they can credit themselves as better than others. These people who believe to be better than the others because of physical appearance are consistently seen everywhere and every day. Their main reason of believing and bragging that they are better than others is because they don’t have someone who in reality had told her/him that they are cute as they said they are. This means they have to show others what they want to be known for, so people start knowing them by that.
The second sin is avarice or greed. Avarice or greed is the desire to possess more than one needs. The reason why people want to have more than others is because of power. People believe that with power they can control their surroundings. “Greed is to be slightly blamed but it is slow to change. Hatred is to be greatly blamed but it is quick to change. Delusion is to be greatly blamed and it is slow to change” (Buddha) (1). This is the easiest way for people to act because since children are in school they are taught to work as hard as they can so later in life they can have abundant amounts of money to sustain their family. Also, people want more than others because they don’t want to see the others having the things that one day they could it have.
The third sin is lust. Lust is excessive sexual desire. Think most people long for the ability to be in control of their own lives, not necessarily someone else’s. In the most extreme cases, people like to have sex because they want to be in control of not only themselves but other people as well. Their lust for power is insatiable. They recognize that power affords them opportunities to manipulate others to do their will, and it’s for their own self-profit. Thankfully, most people are not that extreme, nor self-centered. All people like to have power and the main reason they want to have power over another person is because it shows them that they have high self esteem and confidence to persuade others to do their desires. Also, people who don’t have control over they own life are more likely to pursue for because it’s the only way ofr actually being in power.
The fourth sin is wrath or anger. Wrath or anger is the feelings of hatred, revenge or even denial, as well as punitive desires outside of justice. Anger is not always as sin because people feel necessary and uncontrollable anger, for example if someone was killed and you saw the person act and you tell the police what you saw and they don’t do anything to arrest the person who committed the murder, this will automatically make you feel irate. “Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger” (Eph. 4:26) (2).This will sure make you irate because nothing has been done against that person and this makes you desire to take the law in your hands. Also, people feel anger because they want to do something to stop what they don’t like to see but they can’t really do anything about it to change that. Sometimes people have the power to make a change but they are so angry with the problem that they always take the easiest solution to the problem and that’s why it usually ends up being the wrong answer to the solution because actually the anger heavily influences the brain and your way of thinking.
The fifth sin is gluttony. Gluttony is the excessive desire to consume more than required. Babies are the only ones that should exhibit gluttony because they don’t know what they are doing. People with knowledge have to know that not everything is good as a massive piece. “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags” (Proverbs 28:7) (2). Gluttony could be really destructive because what you are eating today in an excessive way, other people could need it the next day. People decide to demonstrate gluttony because it is the easiest way they can forget about problems and make the time go faster when they are bored.
The sixth sin is envy or jealousy. Envy or jealousy is the antipathy of others for their possessions. What we don’t have is exactly what we want. People in today’s world live their lives with the tendency of wanting what others have. “The desire to acquire what we don’t have determines our future choices…” (1). People use other people’s accomplishments and the things that the others have as a motivation to accomplish their own personal goals because this desires motivate them to become someone that is more successful than the situation that they’re in at that point in time. For example, people in college always said that they want to do this and that because they want to have this and that, and a better life than others around them. This is called envy instead of motivation because these people have to do things thinking about what others have and what they can get rather than what others don’t have. The reason why people use other’s accomplishments is because it gives them a sense of hope to do what others have already done. In the end these people who want to accomplish what others have already accomplished, don’t get to accomplish their goals because they put more attention to what others have already accomplished than the things they want.
The final and seventh sin is sloth or laziness. Sloth or laziness is the avoidance of physical and spiritual work. The main reason why people decide to be lazy is because they don’t want to know what is true and they don’t want to see that they are doing wrong in different aspects of life. For example, in business, some people never check into the laws to see if their practicing the legal or illegal laws. Laziness is used by people to accomplish their goals from others sacrifice.
Decisions should it be make thinking about the consequences that will bring to everyone from every perspective. “We can have facts without thinking but we cannot have thinking without facts” (John Dewey). Humans being should know first what a decision can bring to the table before making a decision because unknowledgeable decisions not only affect one human being but it can affect the whole population. People use vice not because they don’t know what consequences it can bring but because vice are the easiest solution for most of the people’s problems, not even matter the difficulty of the problem.
