Some characteristics of a hero are bravery, determination and willing to sacrifice for others. Cesar Chavez is a hero because he was brave enough to take on important farming companies, he was determined to get rights for farm workers, and willing to sacrifice himself so that other people could get rights to work for more wages and security.

Sacrifice is the act of giving up something that is wanted to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone. Sacrifice is a type of offering. Those three characteristics is what makes a hero. There are way more than these, but these are the main ones. A hero is somebody who is admired. That can be anybody. But a true hero does something important or changes history in a good way. Most people choose celebrities as their heroes. They are wrong. The real heroes are activists, leaders and people who fight for their dreams and accomplish them.
